Lost Planet 2 is an upcoming science fiction third-person shooter video game set to be released in North America in Fall of 2009 and in Japan sometime in 2010. The game is the sequel to Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, taking place ten years after the events of the first game. It is both developed and published by Capcom. The game is being developed for the Xbox 360, Windows, and PlayStation 3.

Lost Planet 2 will played on the same fictional planet seen in the last game E.D.N. III. It takes ten years after the events of Lost Planet: Extreme Condition and will allow players to make their own hero by giving them fully customizeable characters. Gameplay in Lost Planet 2 is more centered around scale of enemies than it predecessor. It will feature up to four-player co-op Campaign play and 16 player online multiplayer.

DEVELOPER: Capcom

PUBLISHER: Capcom

PLATFORM(S): Xbox 360, Playstation 3, Microsoft Windows

RELEASE DATES: Fall 2009

GAME TRAILER:

PLOT:

The story takes place back on E.D.N. III 10 years after the events of the first game. The snow has melted to reveal jungles and more tropical areas that have taken the place of more frozen regions. The game will center on the fictional corporation known as NEVEC (NEo-VEnus Construction) and their ongoing war to gain T-ENG (Thermal-ENerGy). Player(s) will assume control of a group of soldiers battling the Akrid, a race of large insects native to E.D.N. III. The Akrid have expanded their armies and return much more powerful in Lost Planet 2.

Recurring story elements from the original Lost Planet include major boss battles and extreme terrain, amongst other things. The player character will be able to pilot mechanized armor suits, known as Vital Suits (VSs). Players may now ride on the side of some VSs as well. There is also a VS that allows for up to three players to pilot at once. One player can control the VS while 2 others hang on by the sides shooting.

There will be many boss battles featured in the game. Due to the advantage of Co-op multiplayer, there will be many different ways to combat bosses in the game. One such battle, as released in an online video by Capcom, reveals a 6-legged, salamander-like Akrid being assaulted by the player character and their squad.According to Eurogamer, the giant Akrid may be killed by standard gunfire, Vital Suits, or by going directly into the beast's intestines via his mouth. The latter method was compared to the Riftworm scenario from Gears of War 2 in means of scale and methodology.

GAMEPLAY:

Lost Planet 2 is primarily a third person shooter with some RPG elements.

Many of the original gameplay features from Lost Planet will return, but new to the sequel is co-op support for the campaign, which supports up to 4 players online. Lost Planet 2 will be split into six episodes on one disc, each episode containing its own story and hero which all will come together at the conclusion of the game. Lost Planet 2 will allow players to play through the campaign with both 3 companions or AI bots. Bots will also be present if the storyline consists of a squad larger than the four co-op players at any time. The campaign experience will also change based on the players actions in the game, though it has not been announced how or to what extent. Lost Planet 2 will also allow players to gain experience points by playing online battles and by playing the co-op campaign. Kenji Orguro and Jun Takeuchi announced that the game would reward players with points for playing in a unique manner and completing extra objectives in missions.

Unlike its predecessor, Lost Planet 2 will allow players to create and customize their own player for use in multiplayer and single player. Players will be able to customize their character's head, body, back and legs and will allow them to unlock more clothing and body types after leveling up and downloading content. The game will also let players to edit gestures, weapon models, and color palettes used. But weapons used in multiplayer will have to be unlocked through leveling up. As for multiplayer, Lost Planet 2 will feature 16 player versus and will contain game modes used both in Lost Planet: Extreme Condition and Lost Planet: Colonies Edition. Also unlike Lost Planet, Lost Planet 2 will not constantly drain players of Thermal-Energy. This is due to the warmer climate, which can sustain T-ENG presence longer than a cold climate, which drains thermal energy bit by bit. Instead, energy can only be drained when the player pilots VS and uses weapons that require energy. If a player loses all of his energy, a player can give him some of his energy through a new weapon to keep players alive.
